Met Police Bushey created a history on Tuesday 14th July 2009 by finishing Watford Observed Shield runners up. After last week’s deluge and last minute scare of the sporadic shower, Watford Observer Shield finals went underway as scheduled on 14/7 at Watford town’s Woodside cricket grounds. Met. Police Bushey had already created history by being the youngest club to reach Watford Observer Shield finals, team was brimming with confidence in anticipation of an exciting conclusion of their tournament run. Batting first MPBCC posted a modest total of 104 for 7 in their allocated eight ball 14 overs. With key contributions coming in from Mark Parkinson lower down the order. Thames Valley league side, Harefield began their chase and were encountered by a very steady bowling from Steve Long and Dan nightingale. Opener Peter Lynch (41*) dropped the anchor and played a key role in Harefield’s chase. MPBCC bowlers put their heart and soul, runs were difficult to come by, thanks to fantastic fielding and aggressive display of fast bowling. In the 11th over there was a loud caught behind appeal for Harefield’s captain Akshay Reddy (35*), but umpire turned down the appeal to the dismay of MPBCC players. In the end, Akshay Reddy’s men needed 12 off the final eight deliveries off Matthew Corbridge, the skipper steered the team thru with a six off the sixth ball and Harefield won the tournament with one ball to spare. Peter Lynch for his steady 41 not out was adjourned man of the match, while captain Reddy lifted the 2009 edition of Watford Observer Shield. This occassion was made even more special by the confirmation of Frankie & Benny's as club kit sponsor, we welcome them to MPBCC family. On behalf of Metropolitan Police Bushey cricket club and all its patrons we join in to congratulate MPBCC Cup captain David Soulsby and his entire team for this fantastic achievement, this milestone would provide the club and its players lot of motivation to play good cricket and establish the club as a force to reckon with in Hertfordshire. |
